Resume Mistakes to Avoid

After looking at a lot of resumes, I see the same fixable mistakes over and over. None of them mean you're a bad candidate. They just get in the way.

Mistake one: being vague. 'Responsible for various duties' tells an employer nothing. Be specific about what you did and what happened because of it.

Mistake two: fancy formatting. Columns, graphics and photos often break the screening software and hide your best information.

Mistake three: one resume for every job. Tailoring your resume to each posting takes a few minutes and makes a huge difference.

Mistake four: typos and outdated info. A quick proofread and an up-to-date phone number sound obvious, but they cost people interviews every day.

The fix for all of these is a second set of experienced eyes. That's exactly what a resume review is for.
